View Full Version : Dylos group buy interest

From all the talk that's been going on about dust monitors, it seems that several members got in on the group buy a couple of years ago. Got me wondering if there were enough new interest in trying to do another. I haven't talked with Dylos but if there is enough interest, I will. From the last group buy, it looks like the best discounts happen at the 50 unit number.

I would be curious to know what the price break is at that quantity.

Keith,

I'd like to participate if there is enough interest to have a group buy.

If I recall, the last time there was a group buy someone from the Creek took the lead and worked with the Dylos folks for a single order. I believe the discount came to about 25% for a minimum quantity purchase and Dylos was kind enough to handle the credit card portion.

I called Dylos this morning and they are good. I'm waiting on an Email with the discounts and number of units required. I'll post as soon as I get it.

I ran the buy last time.

I made an order form (PDF) that people completed, and faxed directly to Dylos. The order form had all the CC information on it. Once they sent the order form to Dylos, the buyers sent me an E-Mail telling me what they ordered, and I kept a spreadsheet with that information. No CC information was ever transmitted to me.

When the ordering period was closed, I transmitted my spreadsheet to Dylos so they could make sure they received all the individual orders. This was a good way to double-check the results.

Worked great. I'd suggest using this same method again, to whomever is running the buy this time around.

Oh, and let people at the other woodworking forums know about the buy.

Excellent process indeed. If I may ask Phil, what was the price of the unit on your group buy? If I may not ask, that's fine too.

Keith - Phil did a great job last time. I can only imagine the pain it must have been. Last time we had a few options. There were two different micron level devices available and you could purchase with and without data storage. Looks like I bought the DC1100 pro with PC interface last time. I see it lists for $289. Last time we paid about 2 and 1/4 shipped.

(May want to ask Dylos - my unit with PC interface had an out dated serial type interface. You may need to purchase an additional device unless they updated the interface.)

These meters are fantastic! I scoped out my shop and house. A few things that surprised me:

- in the house I happened to catch a spill over in the oven and the readings sky rocketed!
- in the shop with my Jet air filtration unit running the air quality is better than in the house.
- when using power hand tools that are hard to capture dust the Jet air filtration unit will clear this up in less than an 1/2 hour (w/o the filtration levels are high for several hours)

Thanks Mike for all the great info. I'll be sure to talk with Dylos about these things as we progress. Anyone else interested in buying one of these?

Actually, I believe I ran the most recent Dylos group by after Phil did but the post was deleted here on Sawmill Creek. The information is here:

http://refluxions.wordpress.com/dylos-air-quality-monitor-group-buy/

I created a Google Form where people could basically mark their interest:

https://spreadsheets0.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en_US&key=pl6Dri7PNe1g6kg0zqsGqHA&hl=en_US#gid=0

This allowed me to get an indication of what break points we'd be hitting (since this is the main concern that people have). The folks at Dylos were a genuine pleasure to deal with. No affiliation, yadda yadda yadda.

I just got back in and the pricing was waiting for me. Looks like we are close to 25 units. 50 would be better.

If you're ready to commit please send me a pm.

Here is the Group Buy Pricing

Discount Structure for DC1100 w/MSRP $214.99

Quantity of PO Discount Cost

25 30% $150.50

50 35% $139.74

100 38% $136.39

Discount Structure for DC1100 .5 Micron w/MSRP $260.99

Quantity of PO Discount Cost

25 30% $182.70

50 35% $169.64

100 38% $164.42

PC Interface units can be purchased at a 20% discount off list – DC1100 w/PC Interface list of $239.99 will be $192.00 per unit and DC1100 PRO w/PC Interface list of $289.99 will be $232.00 per unit.

DC1700 Battery Operated Air Quality Monitor will also have a 20% discount price off list, which is a price of $340.00. The discount for these units will not change based on quantity. We have had increased costs from our vendors and cannot reduce these units any lower.

We are going to set the cut-off date for August 8th, which is three weeks to get orders. If there are any questions about which unit is best to work for woodworkers, it has been determined by tests performed by the CEO and Engineer that the PRO series (PRO, PRO PC & DC1700) are the best for the size particles that are created from within the woodworkers environment. Here is a link to our website regarding these tests: http://dylosproducts.com/wocrandshair.html.

Also we will provide any technical support needed once the units are shipped. We also have our software on the website that is free to download. Please note the DC1700 does not use this software it uses a free program called PuTTY http://www.putty.org/.

Nice discount on the non-pc interface units. Would be nice if there was a bigger/progressive discount on the p-c interface units too. I had my meter for about a year and it sat on the shelf for so long I sold it. With more new tools/toys & DC would be nice to have it back - the DC1100 .5 is very tempting. For those wondering about the p-c interface the com port to USB cable is around $20 and here are the kind of plots you can make:
