food "safe" finish?

can waterlox count as a food safe finish? i dont mean for all foods, but for things like dry salads or friut. things of that nature. i have a gallon of waterlox, but the gallery i got into asked if i can make my peices more usable. should i switch to a paste wax? or mineral oil?
