I made this candy dish for my wife's brother and his wife who own a dairy farm and a good sized maple syrup operation in the central part of New York state.
As you can see on the picture of the bottom of the dish , i turned this on a faceplate and filled the screw holes with CA and dust from sanding the dish; i did it that way because this piece of wood was rather badly checked when i started on it and i felt like it would come apart on me if i used my Nova G3 chuck like i normally do

this is Sugar Maple, size is approx. 6" diameter and 5" tall finish is clear Danish Oil buffed with Beall system

comments / critique welcomed

thanks for looking

Don, you sure stumbled onto a beautiful piece of that maple! Nice work on the dish - I like the rim. On the next piece of questionable wood, you could epoxy on a waste block to use for the chuck tenon. It will alleviate the holes and works fine for me.

Nice one Don. Sure is great that you have a source of maple blanks....and maple syrup in the family.

thanks for all the encouraging words

while i haven't posted anything in a while, i have been turning quite a bit as the stacks of partially finished bowls in my shop attest to
and the pics will be coming as i get them finished

John;
don't know why i didn't think about a scrap block, i've used them before ..... especially before i got the chuck; definitely would have been a good way to avoid the screw holes , i will try to remember that method the next time thanks for the reminder :) i need those often
