I finally got some time in the shop more exciting than cutting plywood all day. :D

168 pieces of cherry and one piece of curly maple in the bottom panel. 12" tall and approx. 8" across. It is a 1/4" thick down to the midway point with a little more thickness in the bottom to give it some weight. Sanded to 400 grit, it has 3 coats of antique oil for a finish.

Comments or critiques are welcome. Thanks!

The patience of Job!!!! Robert, don't know how you guys do this stuff!

I like this piece, but what would one not like? The joinery is very nice, cherry is beautiful, and very soft curves on the form. Great work! Long hours!!!!

This is very nice, Robert! I think I prefer these monochromatic segmented pieces to the multicolored versions. I love the form, but the first photo makes it appear as though it could use a little more 'tuck under' at the very bottom for lift. I hope you'll bring this one to SWAT... I'd love to see it up close!

Very very nice. I love working with cherry. I can't hardly glue 2 pieces of wood together and make them stay. I can't even fathom trying 168 pieces. I'm sure I would have my forehead glued to the work bench or worse. Love it

The patience of Job!!!! Long hours!!!!

This wasn't too bad at all. Maybe 10 hours from first cut to putting on the finish. With the temperature in the shop in the high 90's and 10% humidity, I was barely able to glue a 12 piece circle before the glue set up. I was sanding and turning rings within 30 minutes of glueing them and felt safe doing it. Of course, YMMV.

When you think about driving, chainsawing, loading, driving, unloading, slabbing, sealing, ibuprofen-taking, turning, drying, and turning again, a 10 hour turnaround doesn't really seem all that long!
