I need some help in identifying this veneer. I'm guessing that it's monkey pod but can't confirm it. In any event it is from South America or more likely southeast Asia.

The picture is representative.

Sorry to bump this thread but I had it on another forum and didn't get any response.

Would appreciate some input if you recognize this wood or if you know of something I might substitute. I'll be needing about 100 sq. ft. of .030".

That's a tough one but no to oak of any kind. No medullaries. It looks like "korina" quite a bit. It has had some colour work done to it I suspect. Korina is from Africa and is used for electric guitars among other things.

I think you have nailed it. It's going to be difficult as I'm sure the cost is way above my customer's target but that's life.

Thanks to all for your help.

200749Mike,
It looks exactly like some black limba wood that I have. The grain and color are very, very similar.

I used some cerejeira on a credenza a few years ago. IIRC, the plain-sawn veneer wasn't expensive at all. It was just a little difficult to find. Crotch veneer was quite a bit more expensive.

I've tried to call twice.

I've been quoted a price that will actually allow me to meet my customer's objective. Customer will laminate to a substrate, paint, and cut so all I have to do is engrave. (I normally supply the wood for their jobs but it's usually domestic)

Thanks again--my customer is happy and their customer will be as well.
