Thanks to Mike Null who did the painted acrylic post. Gave me the idea to do some coasters for my friend who runs a local winery.

I ended up going to the local craft store and picking up some 9x12 sheets of felt that cut beautifully. It came with an adhesive already on so it was cut, peel and stick.

Now I just need to figure out what I am going to charge.......I hate that part.

Those look amazing, Anthony! I'm inspired to make some myself - thanks for posting!

Well, since it's for a friend, charge him GREATLY--by the gallons of wine you could consume in a weekend :p I've been to the winefest in Bernkastle, Gy. Pay 2.50 marks (in 1973)for a glass and the rest is free!!!! To this day I can't drink wine but, I can whine about the time I drank wine :D You did a nice job there and should be proud!

Wow they look fantastic! How did you make those? Is the black the felt?

I would charge between 6 and 8x the material cost , its a good "rule of thumb" guide to pricing for anything that you laser and need to further work on (like paint fill) , material cost x5 is a good guide to stuff you can make on the laser and dont have to work further on.

Looks great Anthony. Can you share a few more details? Was it cast or extruded acrylic you used? Did you paint fill the text?

Yes it was cast acrylic, but for this it seems like extruded would work just as well. The coasters were reverse engraved and paint filled. I just used some rattle cans of Krylon for plastics. Flat White, Flat Black and gold for the family crest.

IS there a difference, I just rastered some clear acrylic, and the numbers came out frosted

Frosted will clear up quite a bit once you pour some paint in it...

Two kinds of acrylic..cast and extruded. Cast rasters with a nice white frosty appearance, extruded will be more toward clear.

Black Plexi engraves rather nice.. These have no colour fill, and were done as a sample test

Nah, you just need to turn it 180 degrees and start again ;)

Ya! I'm always a day late or a buck short on everything..ha..
But they 'are' just the thing you need for your "End of the world Party" in 2012. Afterall, who want's an thoughtless, ugly, glass ring on their table just as the apocalypse is upon us?
