Picked up a Yankee Brace -- everything works fine. The nickel (I assume it's nickel plating) is mostly there and I'd like to polish it up. What works well? Is there anything that I should avoid? My wife has some Elco Stainless Steel polish -- is this a mistake??
Thanks!

Flitz metal polish is my standby.

A toothpaste-tube size will last most of us a lifetime.
It has a tremendously fine grit, unlikely to migrate into the works.

The maker claims it leaves a residual protective layer, probably silicone in the suspension.

It doesn't feel slippery, and polished pieces resist further tarnish.

I think Polish for brace is Braceski.

Thanks -- I got some for my Braceski and it helped a lot!

For a quick fix, I've gotten surprisingly good results with regular old toothpaste. It polishes things up without giving that "over buffed" shiny look.

I have had great results on nickel with Autosol from Lee Valley

Autosol is used by the Conservation Dept. at the museum. Flitz is good, too.

According to the flitz website, flitz is not for "electroplated" finishes. Is "nickel" plating, mentioned by the OP, in this category?

Nickel can be electro plated or"electroless". I do not know which way your braces were plated, but electroplated seems most likely.

Too late I Flitzed it! On the Flitz label it does list nickel among the finishes that it is recommended for. Hopefully no bad effects will follow. Is electroplating thinner -- any ideas why it would be in the "not recommended" section? Some one please enlighten me -- now I'm worried!

I think Polish for brace is Braceski.

Add facility with the one-liner to George's skill set!
