I often see this type of window jutting out from the side of the roof in American homes. Does the structure have specific name?

They had their origin in France from an architect by the name of Mansart. He of the Mansard roof design.

Great thanks; I think I'll stick to "dormer" rather than "dog house" :-)

I am busy cutting a heavily reworked version of one of the Lazerbuzz plans. I made a number of changes to the basic design and also made the dollhouse twice as big and much wider than the original. Kids complained that the patio was to narrow for the furniture so that was also widened. The window frames are placed over the window cut-outs. Doing so allows me to install 3mm perspex "glass" windows. The next step will be to add windows that can open and also to add led lighting.

All the drawing was done in Rhino in 3D and once the whole structure fitted together perfectly then only was the 2D outline drawings exported to Coreldraw. I'll post some photographs of the cut model later.
