Been lurking for a long time and have really enjoyed this forum. Thanks to Nate Davey for turning me onto this. I've been turning about 3 years now, own a Jet 1642 lathe and more turning tools then I probably should. I've sold some of my work, more pens then anything else, but my goal is to do a local craft show some day.

Pictures of some of my work, though I'm lousy at taking the time to take pictures.
First is a walnut bowl with a turquoise inlay , my first attempt at inlay, learned what not to do.
Second is an Ambrosia Maple bowl finished with Waterlox.
Third is a pecan bowl I blew the bottom out of, and repaired it with a piece of Walnut.

So far my favorite finishes are Waterlox, and a mix of equal parts of pure tung oil, mineral spirits and spar varnish. The latter I probably use the most.

Thanks for looking and I look forward to learning more from you great folks.

Welcome, Rob! Very nice work on those bowls, and that is some of the heaviest Ambrosia I have seen. Neat save on the pecan, and a nice contrast with the walnut - looks like a crotch piece, too. I look forward to seeing future postings.

Welcome - nice looking bowls. My favorite is the ambrosia maple.

I love working with Ambrosia Maple, and right now I have lots ready to turn. Went to Murphy a couple years ago, and brought back a lot, and my neighbor cut down a Maple that was full of ambrosia, he's got one more to cut down, I'm trying to get him to hold off until winter.

Walnut is my second favorite, I just love the way it looks.

Beautiful bowls Rob! The color in that Ambrosia Maple is spectacular and it looks like some nice feather in the bottom of the Pecan bowl to make a nice repair. But the Walnut bowl with the turquoise inlay is my favorite.

Glad you could join in Rob. You've posted some nice looking work there. Those "saves" can be as much fun as the original shape was to be. I've done more than a few...Bill...
