Kathy strikes again! When I came home from work there it was a beat up flat rate box from AZ.!!!:D
20 lbs. and 11 1/2" X 11" X 6" slab of Chilean Mesquite.
I don't know where to start,I'm gonna have to think about this.
Do I try to turn one big bowl on my 46-460 or do I half it for hollow forms or?
I hope I can send her back wood that is half as worthy as this is.
I joked with her that I'd send a chunk of box elder but I'm gonna have to rethink that.
Happiness is wood in the mail!:)Thanks Kathy.

That chunk might tax your 46-460 as a big bowl, even after rounding the edges with a bandsaw. I'd be interesting to see how you do. I currently have a Powermatic 3520B but may need to downsize to something like the 46-460, but it will be hard to do to give up the mass and swing. I'd go for a single large bowl looking at the blank.

Thomas,I think you're right, even after cutting it down it would be too heavy for the Delta.
It would be a shame to cut it down, maybe I can rough it out on a friends Powermatic.
If you're downsizing maybe we could trade;)

The mesquite fairy strikes again! You're as bad as some social workers I used to know - are you workin' for flat rate postage in lieu of $$$? :D

If you're downsizing maybe we could trade;)Jeff, for what it is worth, I turned two full 12" bowls on the 46-460. One was cherry, and one BLM burl, both of which were dry. I would not hesitate to give that mesquite a try!! Congrats!

You're welcome Jeff!
Glad to see it made it in one piece and looking forward to seeing what it "turns" into!
