Is a 10x loupe or at least some way of magnifying the engraving , only when you inspect your engraving like this , can you see exactly what the laser is doing and troubleshoot or use settings to get the best results.
For EG , most lasers have a "tuning" or backlash compensation setting , you can only fine tune this under magnification and if you do tune it properly , all your engraving will improve.

I have a magnifying light mounted just above the laser. Couldn't work without it.

Another trick I use is a compact magnifying mirror, that I lay on the bed to see the bottom of my optics for cleaning.
