We just had a customer come to us and ask for a quote on 1 X 3 black on white tags, he would be a regular customer, he owns a business. Do you have a suggestion on what would be a good price . . . for him and for us? I know what we would charge for a name tag, but I am pretty sure he is not looking for that price?

I would really appreicate any help.

Is there more than one line of text?
Do you have to bevel them?
Do you have to tape them?
Is he going to provide a document which will permit you to import them into the drawing without any work on your part?

Mike, there will sometimes be two lines sometime one, not beveled, not sure about the tape but for now let's say No tape and he will not provide a document for importing.

Just spoke with the customer and no tape needed.

Figure out your cost. Figure out your time. Markup the material and then charge for your time. After you get that price, go online and find 3-4 websites which are offering a similar service and see how much they're charging. If you still are lost, find out what the local competition would charge.

I do MANY for PEO and charge $5.50, these are bonded to a gold frame (plastic), 2 line no logo only chapters and they are very happy! They had been paying $17.50 ea. Quick and easy.

Depends on volume, but I give my larger volume customers a good price break, Individually I would charge $4.50-$6.50 each. In volume to a repeat customer, maybe $2.00-$3.00 each for the same engraving - $3.00-$4.00 or more depending on how much time it takes to setup each one. If it's taking a lot of time for each, don't be afraid to charge $6-$7 each. Don't be shy about charging for your time - Better to loose the deal than work for peanuts.

If this is potentially a high volume customer then I would charge about $3.00 but I would charge a set up fee since they are not providing a list you can import. If you advise them of a set up charge of $30-50 they will quickly check to see if there's a secretary around who can do the list in a form you can import.

I am currently doing a large order for a repeat customer of 1/2" x 1.5" one line, beveled and taped for $2.45 each and they are provided in an Excel document. For a one-time order I'd be in the $3.25 area for the same spec. (I can get about 300 tags from a $10 piece of plastic or more than $700. I do have an automatic tape dispenser)

Mike, Where are you getting your plastic for only $10. I've been paying an average $16+shipping.

Look at IPI Laserable II from Johnson Plastics. I buy quarter sheets.

Rowmark Black/White, $11.75 all day long from JDS. We are an advantage customer, so I don't know if that factors in (I don't think it does).

Ten quarter sheets qualifies for AP if you're on the program with JDS.

You could buy it a plane ticket for that price. Holy cow, that's expensive.

The best prices I have found for engraveable plastic is Main Trophy Supply in Illinois. Laserables 2 for $9.76 a quarter sheet Laserables $12.60 a sheet to name a few I use. I hope this doesn't get flagged, I have no affiliation with this company.

Aren't you next door to the JP warehouse? You could save shipping.

Main trophy and JP are both next to me 10 miles apart. JP prices are higher but I use them as backup when MTS is out. I pick up all my supplies, I don't have anything shipped.
