Well it has such a nice even coat of rust, I'd have difficulty applying paint to such a consistant coverage.

Beauty IS in the eyes of the beholder. But, since the seller would not take time to shine up the jointer tables, $75 OFF should do it!

Sheesh, I thought he mounted a piece of mahogany to the fence!

Would you say a car with that much rust was in excellent condition? Yeah tool sellers blow me away sometimes...

Above is a typical CL ad from my area.
In case you can't tell, it's a Craftsman radial arm saw w/a new oak top cabinet and drawers and extras.
I'm not sure if the extras are all the stuff piled on top or not.

Actually if you look at the rest of the machine it has no dents or scratches. It looks like a machine that did not see much use, and for that money, I'd buy it. Tools rust. That little surface rust is nothing to worry about, does not affect the usability of that tool one little bit. I have seen much worse adds, like the previous post.

My favorite is: "Good condition for its age" To me that means they are offering excuses for it being messed up. Heck, I may be considered "Good condition for my age". Probably not though......

We had one the other day where the guy was selling a decent looking Jet cabinet saw and a Jet overhead air filter. He had laid half of the 60 pound air filter across the top of the Jet xacta fence. And, he was asking near new retail for them!:eek:
Yeah, that’s a guy I want to buy from!

I am searching for a jointer as well...and i find the exact same thing.:mad:

Folks....LIKE NEW condition does not include a solid coat of rust and wood chips hanging out of the dust collection shoot.

I am 99% ready to just call Grizzly and order an 8" jointer if i can't find one soon.

It would be 250 if he had enough brains to add the word vintage to it.

As soon as you call and order one you'll run across a perfectly gloatable used machine. ;)

My favorite CL tool adds in my area are the ones that are asking near-retail prices for equipment listed as "like new", "never used", "pristine" and the included picture(s) show it buried 6 inches deep in leaves next to the house and all shiny with rainwater!

That Craftsman radial saw is a really old one. Must be from the 50's. When I demonstrated radial saws for Sears in 1963,they were what they called "charcoal gray" color.

I wonder how long it will take him to sell his Delta Table Saw, Unisaw Model for $2,600? Oh, it does include a custom fence, a duty dust collector with hose and a custom made table?

Well, I guess that on the flip-side is the fact that "like new" also means that you are guaranteed at least 3 hours worth of setup headache if my 6" jointer and 14" bandsaw are any indications. I've bought used machines with some rust patina that I would call much better than like new in that respect. Sawdust hanging from the dc to me is an indication that someone used it enough to actually set it up and use it (although that does not always mean it was set up right).

I'm with Larry. That's a fantastic price if it runs well. Surface rust comes off fairly easily.

I like it when a seller explains the rip, dent etc... for example does it realy matter if the dent is from aunt sue or a tree, a dent is a dent, a rip is a rip... I do not care how it got there I just didnt want it there and therfore am not paying full price... Gotta love it... Or when someone says "well it should", I didnt ask if it should, I ask if it does"....

That's kind of a catch-22. If they didn't explain the dent and i was interestedc in the machine, I would ask about it. Might make a difference to me if their spouse bumped it with a wheel barrow vs it falling off a truck...

Valid point. dent vs. being totaled out under the dent...lol

How about this "Rockwell Saw" for $400?
http://toledo.craigslist.org/tls/2501353519.html

I figured it was a stationary machine for the price, not a circular saw.

He apparently realized he was high because a few minutes later he reposted for $350, then a few minutes after that for $300.
