A couple of friends from out Woodturning Club came over to "look over my shoulder" as I put together a segmented piece. This is the one we worked on. The Indian Blanket design in the feature ring was already made. Only four of them turn out acceptable, so the pyramid design was added to complete the 8 pieces needed for the ring. The pointed design on the top was the 16 cut off pieces from the 8 segments I used to make the feature ring for my "Eye of Ra" piece shown in another thread. (Don't throw anything away).

This one is 10" Diameter, 5" high. It has 394 pieces. Bloodwood, Purpleheart, Yellowheart, Cumaru and Cherry. Finished with Tung Oil.

What ya think?

Bill - you are the master of the segmented piece. to be able to visualize and then generate these without 3-D imagery is a gift you have exploited. Very nice work

Bill I always enjoy looking at your creations. I may not always comment but I really enjoy looking at them. This is no exception. VERY NICE.

WOW!!! Sooooooo Nice! Bill that is a beautiful form! Great segmentation and design. If you ever get the pictures to match up with your segmenting and turning skills, then your work will shine even brighter! Are you using a little point & shoot camera........cell phone maybe? I ask because your pics seem grainy to me, but boy your work sure is nice!

Nice one, I love the native stuff. Weaving and seqmented pieces really lend themselves to the geometric shapes. I like this one...a lot!

I love the form on this one, Bill, and the design element around the opening is really a nice accent. Nicely done, sir!

Impressive. What I think is that you are a rising star, Bill. Great work on that chunky-gluey stuff, and equally nice on the form and turning!!

Bill - super nice work on this piece! My favorite part is the feather design around the opening! Great joinery and I do like the color combination of woods used! Keep up the good work!

yes, the "blanket" design does take a ton of work & getting all right with it is very tough. Congrats on getting 4 right! I have never seen the collar star done as you have. Interesting angle there. I think you are on your way to making some very nice segmented pieces. Remember the golden ratio.

Great joinery, Bill, and a nice feature ring. I notice that your pics are in the range of 650 x 400+ @ 100% producing images in the 65KB range. We could probably appreciate your work more if the images were in the range of 1024 x 800 @ 60% (or whatever compression it takes to get them to 107KB.) You might want to consider downloading FastStone, or one of the many other free programs, to tweak your images for uploading. Just a thought - shame to not be able to see the detailing.

Very nice Bill. I really like the types of designs you have been using for your top ring on the last couple you have posted.
