A Penn state Benjamons Best 5/8. Only $20.50. They have them, and others, at the Capitol Area Woodturners meetings.
Got it reground and managed to rough out 2 Beech bowls.
This has potential.

Congrats on the new gouge! That is a great price as well.
Make sure you post pics of the finished product(s)

I bought the benjamin's best 2 inch roughing gouge. For the money it isn't too bad. Did you clean the coating off of it? I found denatured alcohol worked great on mine.

I bought the BB 3-pc "pen tool" set many years ago and found them to be of good quality, especially for the money. While I really don't turn pens, the parting tool is my favorite of the three I use and I use the small gouge for rolling beads in the rare moment I do some spindle turning. I'll be interested to hear your comments about the bowl gouge after you use it for some time.

Jim, I'm not sure what value my comments would be. Since I have no basis for comparison.
Perhaps one day I will manage to try it alongside another one. Then I'll know for sure.
As it is, I'm happy with it. And for $20! Even happier.
