I didn't want to hijack another thread so I started a new one :-)

In another posting someone recommended not using Fusion on acrylic outdoors.
I use Fusion quite a bit for many things including use on acrylic for outdoors.
I haven't had any issues with the things I have done, but they have only been
outside about a year.

When I talked with Kyron before I started using it the said it should hold up for
many years.

What I'm asking, has anyone had issues or nervous about outdoor use with this?
Has it failed? If so where, loosing adhesion, finish or fading.

I have been a staunch advocate of this material so it does make me wonder now.

I know Krylon makes an Outdoor Use paint for plastics but I haven't tried it.
Has anyone worked with it?

What do others recommend or use instead of Fusion?

Thanks!

Hi Martin! I painted a Mercury Stern Drive with Black fusion a couple of years ago, and it sat in the water (fresh..Well, low quality river water) for a full season, and it stood up just fine.. 100% underwater is a pretty good test!

the only failure I've had so far has been on sheet acrylic. It goes on looking
great, but if it is disturbed it can peel off. FWIW areas with engraving seemed
to hold pretty well, but large smooth areas can lift with slight rubbing and
then come away in a sheet. The materials I used were Plaskolite, Optix and
Acrylite. All were clear sheet, not frosted.
I wasn't aware of an outdoor version of Fusion, so I can't speak to that.

I basically use Fusion on black cast, I have tried to get it off the pieces I used, but it damaged them
before it peeled or failed. Again they have only been outside a year and not in direct sun all day long.
I can understand that with such a smooth surface there may some adhesion issues, so I may start to
rough up the surface as that may help the bond. As with any paint, reliablity is directly related to prep-work.

The Outdoor Spaces is what Krylon calls it, so I don't believe it's part of the Fusion line.

Thanks for the input!

Ah.. I've never seen that.
I'll have to go find some, though!

Martin, Keith Outten uses Krylon Fusion on most of his outdoor signs, if I recall correctly. You might want to PM him and get his feedback.

I painted some inexpensive plastic outdoor chairs about 3 years ago with Fusion and they are still holding up well.

I've used fusion on Glass without any problem at all, and you can't get much smoother than that! There must have been some kind of invisible surface film on the acrylic for it not to adhere.. The can says Fusion is formulated to stick to plastic..
