This piece was a little spalted when I cut it from the log. I kinda wish I had left it in the plastic bag a little longer. The good part was that it turn like butter with minimal tear out, and sanded quite easily . Again the bead on the rim was cut with my 3/8" spindle gouge before the inside was removed. The rim is still fairly straight, but you never know for sure how they will warp. Bottom is a series of very small beads also done with the gouge. They probably were more rounded with the sanding process than the actual cutting. The base was kept somewhat large to afford stability and lift to the bowl. Finish is 3 coats of Formsby's Tung Oil and 3 coats of Mohawk Pre-Cat Lacquer.

The simple shape and great execution really show off the wood in this piece. I like it a lot.

Pretty stuff, Bob... I may have missed it, but how deep is 'shallow'?

David the total is just under 2 and 1/4" and the inside depth is just under 2" Overall the bowl is pretty light in weight.

As much as I like the figure and color of this bowl...I think the foot treatment is outstanding!

Bob, Nice bowl from some pretty wood, I too like the added rings on the base, gives a little class to the underside when picked up and admired. The extra tactile experience helps for many buyers.

Nice job,

Jeff
