I would like to build a jig to hold my waterstones

I have seen a plan but as usual forgot where I saw it

Can anyone please direct me to a suitable plan

Mine are as crude as can be as I see no need to get fancy. Just a piece of wood with stops to hold the stone and when it gets real cruddy, I just make another one in ten minutes.

Deneb (of Lie-Nielsen) has a fairly well thought-out sharpening setup (and lots of demonstration videos no youtube):
Here's one person's version of the setup:

And here's some instructions on it at the LN site:

this is designed for use with a mister to refresh the surface.
The alternate approach that you may be thinking of is a stone pond -- where the stones are stored in water, and set up on a holder over the pond during sharpening. The surface is swabbed periodically to remove the swarf and wet the stone. I first saw this on a Frank Klausz DVD on handtools. It periodically gets referenced for his demonstration of how he makes the bottom seal with a wood "gasket":

I use Shapton stones which do not have to be kept in water. When I use them, I put them on top of their boxes (the box is designed for that) and put a rubber pad down. I found an exercise pad worked very well. It's not absorbent but it grips the bench and the stone (box), plus it keeps the water off my bench. When not using it, I fold it up and store it with my stones.

I use Denebs design as per Matts post, and love it for it's simplicity. I can replace it in 10 minutes, too. I still use my veritas jig for holding and setting blade angles tho'

I use the same LN set up. It works great.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time and effort to reply I have found the following link (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?56386-Waterstone-Holder)

I like the idea in this design of routing channels in the base to collect the water

I have decided to incorporate features from all three jigs

Again a big thank you to everyone for your help and kindness

Brian
