I received my first award (2nd place) at a juried gallery show at Mint Hill Arts this past Friday, and actually, the first gallery art show I've entered...so I'm pretty excited. I'll get some other pics from the gallery perhaps, but here's the piece.

I called it "Licking Flames" because of the way the radial trunk lines came to a flame like point on the inside. It's a piece of Norfolk Island Pine I did last year, about 10" tall and 10" across...one of my favorites.

I really didn't expect to win anything, as I entered in the 3D category and I had seen a lot of very creative and well done sculpture, pottery and fabric work there as well, so I'm grateful and honored. Having LOML, as well as my sister (an artist in her own right) and her daughter there was a treat, especially since I had no clue I had anything coming.

My other piece entered, Black Sundae, was my more recent piece, but no award. I appreciate the comments from everyone on that piece towards how I'll do a similar piece in the future.

This piece is about 10" diam x 10" tall and finished with rattle can satin lacquer. A very soft finish but still reflects a bit!

Congratulations Tim. You should have gotten first with that one. I really like the grain and knots in that piece.

Tim, great job! I like the form, and the finish doesn't overwhelm the beauty of the wood and grain.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and congrats. I have a few much smaller pieces of this stuff out in my wood storage area, but really got lucky with the degree of spalting in this piece. Couldn't have asked for much better colors.
