Been getting back in the shop a bit more here lately and turning a few things. Just recently finished up this little Black Cherry NE and then today finished up this little Sycamore HF.

While I love me the sycamore, that black cherry steals the show. Boy, you sure have the natural edge bowls down. NICE!

Mark I love them both Mark but the NE tugs at me. I really like that one.

Cherry looks good enough to eat. Beautiful looking bowl. Nice form on the second piece. I'm sure it would be appreciated even more if it was not up against the cherry.

They are both beauties. I've got a cherry NE on the lathe now. Hope it comes out half as good as yours.

Gorgeous, the both of them.

Sycamore is the wife's favorite, she will want some of these as soon as the Monster arrives.

Thanks for sharing.

Mark, you do a wonderful job on the NE pieces, and this is no exception. But, I am drawn to the sycamore piece. The wood is plain, and it really lets the form shine. Nice work! I have a sycamore tree that needs to come down (already dead) and this makes me want to get that done!

I had the pleasure of turning a couple pieces of sycamore. Beautiful wood, your form really lets it stand out! As one would expect...the cherry is amazing!

Both pieces are just beautiful but I have to agree with JK about the plain wood really letting your form shine on the sycamore. About as good as it gets and I'll say it again, form trumps figure every time. You should be proud of both of these.

I like both. The cherry NE has perfect lines. The way you held a straight line up the side and through the edge cuts the NE at an angle that makes it wider and shows it off. The sycamore hollow form makes me want to run out and find a piece of that specie. Nice work.

Mark, both of these are gorgeous. The Cherry NE is spectacular. I agree with John K though, I think the sycamore is something special. The form is ultra elegant, and the wood really highlights it. It makes me want to touch it.

Mark - love the color variations in the Cherry! What a lot of folks don't realize is that while you are known for your natural edge bowls - your hollow forms are some of the best out there! This one is no exception and once again steals the show! Beautiful work on both turnings! Happy to see you getting in a little shop time! Looking forward to seeing what you turn next!

Like everyone else, I agree that the form of the sycamore is as good as it gets. The NE piece - well, it's a signature Mark Cothren. What more need I say?
