Hi Everyone

I don't have a true cabinetmakers workbench. I have an torsion box assembly table (3' x 6' and the top is approx 3" thick) that has started to do double duty as a workbench. I want to add 1 or maybe even 2 steel vises on it.

I'm considering using the 12" jorgensen vise on the front of the table and the 9" vise on the end to act as a tailscrew. I would build up the front apron so that I can accomodate dogholes along the front edge in line with the steel bump up on the vise.

Any thoughts on these vises? They are the quick release versions. Any other options i should consider. These were attractive given thier price, but if someone has something cheaper....please chime in!

Thanks

George

I haven't made a decision yet. Ill be in atlanta in july so I'm thinking about going to highland to see for myself. I'm thinking ill go with it. For what ill probably use it for (tail vise) it'll be fine...and I think its still made in the USA which is a big plus for me.

I picked up a used Wilton for $35 on Craig's List. I think these were very common in high school wood working shops. You might check your local listings. This was a 7" quick release. I don't think you will be unhappy with the Jorgensen.
