Diffusing light.

I've come up with a candle lantern design that I want to share here when completed. But I need to find something that'll diffuse the light where the design is cut out. Like what they use in Japanese lanterns. I'd rather not use a paper product, but don't know what else I can use.

I use 3 or 5 mil mylar (2 Side Matte Drafting Film) in my tea lites and nite lites

A thin wood veneer might look cool, too. Or thin white acrylic / plexi, if it doesn't have to be paper thin.

Frosted glass will work.

They have some etching kits at crafts stores. But any glass shop should have frosted window glass cheap.

White nylon may work also.

Home Depot - look for the 2 ' X 4' fluorescent light diffuser panels. They are 1/16" thick - that's what I use for my lamps. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?134160-Circular-Rectangular-Lamps
