I've been busy getting ready for the Symposium. Just finished this piece that will be going with me. My good friend Robin Costelle sent me a big piece of Curly Ambrosia Maple awhile back. I thought about cutting it up into smaller blanks but changed my mind. This was hollowed with my new Carter Hollow Roller system. I do beleive that my d-handle system will soon be on the market. This one measures 6-1/2" dia. x 12" tall, walls about 3/16", and is finished with my 10 minute finish. Critiques/Comments welcome.

Glad you did not cut it up! It's sweet! Especially like the "soft" finish...

Beautiful form and a like the finish as well. Only thing missing is birdseye and then it would have been the Maple Trifecta

Keith, you do beautiful work!! Having a nice piece of wood doesn't hurt either - Robin certainly provided a nice palette for you. I would love to see a straight on shot of this form. I know everyone talks about tucking the bottom on these vase forms, but for the life of me, I am not totally sold on that. It would be nice to see how you have handled the profile on this one.

What is your 10 minute finish that I have seen referenced a number of times?

Keith,
A beautiful form, and great piece of wood. I also like the soft finish on that piece, works very well. Wish I were going to symposium and able to see it and other beautiful work.

Enjoy!

Bob- I, too, was curious about the finish. After doing a little search, I found this from Keith. Hope it helps you in the future.

A couple have asked about my 10 minute finish so here it is.

1. Sand thru 400 to 600 grit. I power sand at high speed.
2. Rub in Minwax Antique Oil (Red Can). It may feel a little tacky but thats okay. Let set for a couple of minutes. Do not follow instructions on can.
3. Buff with tripoli followed by wax. I use the Beall System.

I am not a finishing expert and have no idea why this works or if it will work with other oils. Your results may vary. Works best on dense woods. Other woods may require a second or third application of the oil applied in the same rub in manner.

Thanks for all the kind words y'all ! Glenn, thanks for finding my previous post on the finish, I hope it helps. I am looking forward to meeting anyone here that is going to the symposium. So many here are going that I want to meet.
