This is the pedestal and finial I asked for some help with sometime back. This is the shapes I decided on based on the immensely helpful Photoshop wizardry by John Hart. I tried to make the knob mirror the pedestal and bowl and the base of the pedestal mirror the bowl. Not sure if it worked or not, but for my first I'm fairly happy with it. I see in the pic I didn't maintain a continuous curve on either but I'm sort of OK with it. I have about 6 coats of Formby's Tung Oil on the outside and a few on the inside so not quite finished but wanted some critique on what I came up with. Thanks for looking.

P.S. neither the knob or pedestal are glued on.

Great looking piece!! I like the form and the pedestal and finial work for me. Not sure that I would call it a plate. What are the dimensions?

Very nice Nate. I'd be happy with it too if it were mine. It's beautiful.

Andrew, "bowl" would be more accurate I guess. The dimensions are 8 1/2" wide by 7" tall. Looks like my proportions are a bit off

Nate over all i think it's a great looking piece. If i was to change anything about it it would be the finial. I just like the more conventional finials, but of corse that's just me so take that with a grain of salt.:)

Nate, I think the general concept worked out very well. The only thing I might consider would have been a little less height on the knob/finial. Other than that - nice work!! The finish is really bringing out the character of the wood.

Nate, I like that! When I get around to it, I hope my 1st finial/pedestal piece looks half that nice. Good Job.

Well that sure turned out nice! I like your knob/finial as it is functional and not purely for decoration! Proportions all work well.. overall - you did good! Thanks for sharing!

Mike, my wife and I may be accepting a job out there in Abq, in a year or so. How's the turning scene out there?

Fine, Fine, fine!!! that one is really nice Nate...........I think your form is terrific and the finish is well done! I like a bit smaller knob height-wise, but wow, what a nice piece!

Wow!! Cool, Nate!!
And I got to help??? There's a first! Usually, I just make things worse.:o

I wouldn't fret too much about the straightness of the stems. That comes shortly....probably your next piece!!

Very nicely done sir. ;)
