That's what I thought this looked like...wadda I know http://familywoodworking.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif. My friend Adam needed a wedding present and asked me to make a HF for him. Through a comedy of errors...this is what we ended up with. BLM burl from Mike Smith. 6" and a 4.5" base. Acceptably thin with a 1/4" base for some ballast. RoS to 600, 2 coats Formby's Tung oil finish and on the fourth coat of gloss WoP. Hope ya like it…despite the pictureshttp://familywoodworking.org/forums/images/smilies/redface.gif
C&C used next time...

Very nice piece of wood. I turned a piece recently that very well could have been from this same tree ( from Mr. Smith and very similar grain ). You picked an interesting form to turn but it showed the defects of this wood very nicely. Good job!

Thanks for taking the time to respond folks! I'm not crazy about the form...but this one wasn't up to me. As always...big pat on the back to Mike Smith for taking the time to grab great wood!! He sent me more of the same batch and in a midnight run to Kentucky I stole a box off of JK's front porch...heehee. Not crazy about the form....but we'll see.
