View Full Version : Last day at work......

Today is my last day at work. It's been fun, but I think it is time to retire and do things I want to do when I want to do them. I'm looking forward to it and have no regrets. I've worked for three different companies, four if you count the Navy in the past 40 years. Nearly every day has been different. With few days that I recall that I was bored and looking for something to do.

We plan to do some upgrades to the house, some traveling, more hunting and fishing and spoiling the grand kids.

Belinda,

Doesn't it kinda depend on whose foot you're under?;) My wife is sure a lot happier that I've gone back to work part-time than I am.

Congratulations, Lee!!!

Lee, that really sucks!

Not that you're retired, it's the fact that I'm not, and I'm jealous.

Congratulations, have fun.............Regards, Rod.

If everybody retire who will run the store ?

That is a real good question. It is predicted by 2018 there won't be enough working folks to fill all the job openings created by retirees. Too bad it isn't happening today to reduce unemployment.

My father retires in August. I'm still decades from retirement.

I resemble that remark.... ;)

Until you guys mentioned it I really hadn't thought about it, but I've got about twenty years to go.

Kinda depressing. Some days I don't even feel like I'll last another twenty years.

Good Monday morning Lee! First day of retirement? What to do? Have that extra cup of coffee and forget about the commute traffic. Ask the wife "Dear can I fix breakfast for you this morning?"

Enjoy it Lee!

One feeling is common in retirement, you will wonder how you ever found time to go to work.

Don't get in the habit of sleeping in. I used to work swing shift. Now I tend to get up earlier than I did during my working life.

now this comment is funny because if we work all three shifts then any time that we wake -up is earlier

My last situation was a kind of early swing shift. I went in at 11:00 am.

I have worked all shifts. Graveyard was the hardest for me.

I tend to sleep less now. It could be that we moved to a much less stressful area.

Besides, it is my time that is being wasted if I just lay awake in bed.

day shift was the hardest for me because I alway had work to do at home that made it hard for me to get up the next day, retirement is nice because I can sleep in

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and well wishes. Here's what I did my first retired weekend.197906 It was a church project for a local Homeless shelter for families. I was volunteered to be the project leader. I had about 2 dozen helpers that made it possible. the work also included leveling the site, and adding a cushion layer consisting of 27 yards of wood mulch.

Today (Monday) I started the day with a long walk with the dog then I caught up on a bunch of tasks around the house. Tomorrow I will be helping build a Habitat house for a local family it is in the second week of a three week build I also helped out the first day, we built the majority of the floor and four outside walls and raised them into place.

I think Wednesday will be fishing if the weather cooperates.

So far I haven't missed working :D

Congrats, Lee. . .

If you are anything like my father, grandfathers on both sides and numerous others I have known, retirement is a time to accomplish everything work held you back from doing. (My father, retired, runs three full time businesses. My remaining grandfather, at 90, still manages a nurseriy, farms at least half of his 70+ acres, and is active in both Church and Civitan acivities. . .)

Can't say I am looking forward to retirement. . .Sounds to me like it'll be even more work than working.

Congratulations Lee.

My advice, keep active and stay away from the boob tube.

All you young folks, have more babies we need contributers to the Social Security Fund.
