I kind of like the way this turned out, although I was hoping the walnut rim would be a tad bit darker. I had what looked like a nice piece of maple, but it wasn't deep enough for the shape I was going for, so I added the segmented rim. it was a good test run for my 16-piece segmenting sled too!
Maple and Walnut, about 10" diameter, finished with Antique Oil and buffed.
Comments and Critiques always welcome and appreciated.

That is a nice looking bowl! Great wood combo, and a nice way to stretch that gorgeous maple into a functional form. Top notch!

Dan, that works, and works very well!! Beautiful form and a fantastic piece of curly maple. Nice joinery, too.

The walnut will actually lighten more over time, and will amber. I kind of like that, but if you want continued contrast, you would need to add some dye to the walnut - a tricky job with the piece you have done!

Hey Dan.............that one is first class for sure........beautifully figured maple, and the rim just sets it off..........nice job!

Dan, I'm having some vision issues...but that is a great bowl!! Even without the walnut, the maple stands on it's own! I'm on your side on this one!

Dan, I should clarify here that walnut and curly maple constitute my favorite wood combo, and particularly with the furniture I have built. Time will just make that a more pleasing match.

Dan, I agree, not much else to say that has not been said, awsome!

Thanks everyone for your kind remarks! I have to admit, I was a little afraid that I was going to screw up a really nice piece of maple by trying something new! Thanks for making me feel good about the outcome.

John K - Thanks for the insight on the walnut, I haven't been working with wood long enough to see how the different woods change with time, it should be fun to see! I was judging my expectations off of some other chunks of (what I was told) walnut that I've played around with which were amazingly dark. I guess it all depends on the individual piece. Either way, I'm pleased enough that I'm not even going to attempt dye on this one. My wife loves it, so I'm calling it done! Thanks again.

Thanks for looking,
Dan
