View Full Version : First pierced piece.

Not nearly as delicate as Mr. Hackler's wonderful cricket cage but my first attempt at piercing.

Spalted maple and walnut, 11" x 3" to the top of the knob, WOP and lightly buffed.

I thought I would try a knob for this piece instead of a finial, just for something different. Since the lid weighed virtually nothing, I hollowed out the knob stem and filled it with lead, just to give it a little more weight.

All comments welcomed.

Toney, dont sell yourself short. This is really cool! I love the way the knob compliments the piercing pattern. Really good work!

Very nicely executed and a great design, Toney!! I like the manner in which you have carried the pentagon pattern into the knob - and, a very delicate looking piece overall with great contrast.

Very cool, but it's sad to see another Creeker has gone cross-eyed from piercing.:D

Love the repetition of the star motif.

You guys are going to get me to try this someday. I love what you did with knob. You must have looked long and hard for that beautiful wood.

Very nice Toney! So, having done one....do you feel a calling to do more? It looks like a test of patience.

Toney, That has it all going for it, contrast, wood complents, cool knob, spalting and the form has an oriental flare to it that brings it all together!

Very nice,

Jeff

I really like the way the piercing creates the arcs of the pentagram. The handle really punctuates it. Very nice work!

This is very nice Toney! I like the random pattern of the holes and how they all come together to present a star pattern! As the others have already mentioned - great idea to carry that star into the knob! I also like how the grain in the knob matches the grain in the lid! It's the little things that make for a presentation!

The spalted Maple is quite pretty on it's own but I find the two woods make for a great color combination!

Very nice work! Thanks for sharing!

Love the repetition of the star motif.

It's not sad....it's great. I don't want to be the only cross-eyed Creeker here;);)

Great job on this Toney...as said, nothing here to sell yourself short on. Beautiful wood, great job of carrying design element thru the piece. A winner!
Makes me think it would be a really nice way to hold potpourri.

Thank you gents for the nice comments.

"You must have looked long and hard for that beautiful wood.

It is lovely wood but fortunately Steve I have plenty of it. The following is not all as heavily spalted but a lot is. Wood addiction is a terrible affliction!!!

I will probably do another one Ted. I am like others here, I worked some and then go do something else. Not only is it tiring but I am too ADD to sit that long!!!
