This is a piece i just now finished.Still needs wax and buff, but will do that in about a week.It has some punky spots in it, buy i thought it was to nice to throw out. The finial base i'm not real sure about but it is what it is. It's made from a piece of holly i had sitting around, dyed black, using india ink. Thanks for looking and all C&C more than welcome.

Steve - great job on the form! Nice curve and the small foot fits with the heart shape! Finial looks pretty good as well with the one small exception of the top element. Might just be the way things photographed - but the small segment just below the tip looks fatter than the section lower down the finial. Just me - but I try to get the finial progressively thinner as I get to the tip.

Nice work! You should be very happy with this!

Steve just went and checked. The top element is 1/8 and the middle one is 3/16, so it is a 1/16 bigger. The stem at the smallest is just under 1/16
Thanks Steve and Charlie

Nice work on the form, Steve - beautiful wood. I think Steve S. was referring the the shaft of the finial. In the pics, it appears that the shaft thickness just below the tip is just a bit thicker than the shaft just below the bead embellishment. It could just be the lighting.

John now i see what he was talking about. it does apear to be in the pics. Just looked at it sitting here next to me and with a naked eye can't tell if it is or not. Even got my glasses on.:)

Nice one! Looks pretty good from here. The finial base looks ok as is, or you might have incorporated it into the shape of the piece. Very good job either way! Thx for posting.

Ditto what Steve said. This form is really nice and the finial is fine up to the first embellishment. From there up it needs a bit of "finesse". But only "a bit"!

Thanks all. I might make a different finial tomorrow. It just depends if i have to go to the hospital or not. They took my father in law there about 2 hrs ago, and it don't look good.

Steve, I do hope things go well with this situation - it is hard, and the answers aren't easy. You will need to provide the emotional support for your wife during these times, and be there for her. We will be thinking of you.
