One of the many things I love about this forum and others is the magnificent variety of work on display. There are pieces that I keep going back to again and again. One of these pieces is the work of STEVE Sherman - "Pax Viridis" over on WOW. The first time I saw it an idea popped into my head. This is it.

Box Elder HF approx. 11"x 7". The form was very bland with absolutely no color at all. I found a piece of red box elder in my parts box. Coloring is Transtint dye and 197125is matched as closely as I could to the natural color in the top. Tit was airbrushed in stages going from very light red to darker.

Thank you Steve for the idea.

Comments and critiques always welcome.

Now that is what I like. Heck of a paint job. Really blends well with the top. The vertical diamond shapes just add to the whole piece. Thanks for the look.

That's pretty darn cool Dick. I like this piece. Form is well done, neat effect with netting...just cool. Hadn't seen this done before.

Very nice work. I usually like to see more of the wood grain but this looks great.

Dick, this is an excellent effect! And, great work on the color scheme as well - hope the matching BE retains its color. Great form, as well.

Wow...is that cool or what! The possibilities seem endless as far as items to use as a mask. Your form is great, Dick, and I like the style of the mouth. It sort reminds me of a Tibetan, Nepalese, or Chinese form....you know...a Himalayan kind of thing.

Really nice Dick. I particularly like the way the net pattern disappears at the bottom.

Super job, Dick. This is one of the few times where I can actually see the title of the piece in the work.

I'm glad you said "fishing" because otherwise I would have thought "Spiderman"! The effect is very nice whatever you call it. Really nice form and the coloring makes it look almost like it's made of glass rather than wood.

That's really cool, Dick. The form is great and the coloration and design is beautiful. Like D.D., I was kind of thinking "Spiderman" myself. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice job Dick! The shape, coloring and net all fit together to make a very distinctive piece!

I love it. I have messed around with dyes just enough to know how hard it can be to get right.

Really nice Dick. I particularly like the way the net pattern disappears at the bottom.

Thanks John. Is that you on the inside cover of the AAW mag? If so, how do you get rims on the bowls. It just blows me away.
