I delivered a wild black cherry bowl today to a friend's wife. Her husband had given me 3 of the wild black cherry trees in the last 3 years, and this was the last bowl in payment for these 3 trees. When a person gives me a tree I want, I make them a bowl from that tree. On the bottom of each bowl I put that the tree for this bowl came from his farm, and all the bowls from these trees have been sold all over America and in 2 countries abroad. My friend died 3 months ago, and I told his wife that even though he was gone his name would live across America on my bowls. She said with tears in her eyes he would be proud to know that his wood was being used on such pretty bowls, and thanked me for the story. On the center of their dinning room table was the last big natural edge bowl I delivered about 6 months before he passed away. She said he often remarked about how something that beautiful came from one of those old cherry trees out in the pasture. I was touched, and thought I would pass this along to all of you.

What a wonderful story Glenn.
Thank you for sharing it with us.
I know she was so honored to have that bowl.
It'll be a treasure to her and I'm sure a family treasure as well.

Beautiful story Glenn. A great heritage is all that we can leave behind when we depart this world.

I may have to try my hand at this turning thingy :D .

What a great story!! It seems that many of the turners that receive free logs do this, a great way to say thanks...

I am sure that she will cherrish those bowls for her lifetime!
