This is a chunk of tree that i got off the job site. Not sure what it is, so hoping some one can help. The wood is heavy and when i cut in to it, it seems to have green spots all through the creamy sapwood. thanks for any help you can give, and by the way it turns great. Just don't know any thing about it.

Not 100% but I will agree with Dennis that this bark looks a lot like Persimmon that I've seen.

Ditto for Persimmon. Climbed a bunch of Persimmon as kid because the extremely rough texture of the bark allowed a great hand/foot hold.

Without a doubt persimmon. The bark combined with the small dark stripe in the middle is a dead giveaway, and the heavy nature of the wood is indicative of it as well. I wish there were big pieces of it around here!!!! Its "north american ebony". Its actually really related to ebony--Diospyros virginiana.
