Sycamore hollow form measuring approximately 6 inches tall by 5.5 inches wide. All comments and critiques are welcomed and appreciated.

The grain, pattern, and dye job on this piece really run together well. If you stare at it for a second, it almost seems like some sort of optical illusion.

Fantastic HF, and I'm sure the picture doesn't do it true justice!

Joe - Welcome to the Creek! Folks here that are not familiar with your work are in for a treat!

Beautiful form, color and texture! I am used to seeing lots of curl - but this is a really cool change!

Very nice - it almost appears that you can see through the piece. How did you do the carving?

Looks like you did all the right things. Beautiful job with the pattern and coloring. Just enough transparency to show the wood. Can't wait to see some more

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the kind remarks. I appreciate them all.

Greg, the carving was all done freehand with palm gouges.

A great piece of work Joe!
Did you color the holes or is tha just darkness? Seems like you carved the slots, then sprayed black, then sanded a layer and dyed blue.

Welcome, Joe...and thanks for sharing this fabulous eye candy with us!

The only problem I had with it was that it wouldn't stay still long enough! A terrific piece!

This reminds me of those 3D art pictures where, if you stare at them long enough or focus your eyes just right, a different image will appear. The faint ripple effect of the rings in the wood hints at something beneath the surface and it seems like if you look at it long enough it will magically reveal itself. But it remains hidden as if unwilling to make itself known. It's very deep and mysterious.

A great piece of work Joe!
Did you color the holes or is tha just darkness? Seems like you carved the slots, then sprayed black, then sanded a layer and dyed blue.

The slots were carved, the entire vessel was dyed purple, the surface was sanded back, the entire vessel was dyed peacock blue. The peacock blue over purple forms a rich midnight royal blue - almost black.
