Hello all,

Well I've finally come to the bottom of the big box of Performax pre-cut sand paper rolls I bought on eBay years ago. They were all Klingspor brand.

It looks like it is much more cost effective to make a simple jig and cut my own. Maybe there is a good source for pre-cuts I don't know about?

What brand or source is everybody using for their Performax or other drum sanders?

Thanks in advance,

Scott in Montana

I've never used anything other than 80. Seems to be a good mix between taking off some material and having a decent place to start when I'm done.

I've only used the Performax brand. I'm a cheapskate, and soak my paper in soapy water and wire brush them clean. I bought the paper with the unit. Didn't know that others made paper for it at the time.

I've been buying bulk rolls from Peachtree. I just use an original Performax strip as a template to cut the ends. I have to agree that 80 grit is the best compromise on a 16/32, since it doesn't load up and burn as easily as the finer grits.

120 is as fine as I can use on my Delta open side sander. 220 just makes burns at once. 36 for coarse sanding,80 for medium,120 for finest from the machine. As for brand,I have a load of brown ALO paper roll I picked up surplus. On my belt grinder, blue zirconia is the longest lasting for metal, and possibly for wood, too. I get it from Klingspor.

I roll my own. Huge savings!

Precisely what I get too. One word of warning: one day you will have to replace your conveyor. Do yourself a favor and only buy the Jet/Performax one. I've tried using regular sanding belts and none of them track straight as a conveyor in my experience (though I'm sure they're fine for sanding! ).

And I thought it was just user error that I would easily get burning with 220 grit. I thought it was just me.
You guys make me feel a lot better.

I use the Jet brand on my 22-44, I have no issues with burning down to 220 grit.

I use the blue paper from Klingspor. 80 grit. Roll (or cut) your own. Save the paper that came with the machine as a template. Not a fan of the Jet paper.

edit: Oh, and buy the 2"x2"x12" eraser bar for cleaning the paper.
