Hello all
another try...
Walnut (the drop)
Yew (the stand)
attempts to bleach the walnut on a shoestring (detergent, bleach ...)
Yew is just painted black ...
Comments welcome
Wish you good turnings,
Lionel.

Very imaginative idea Lionel! Love the form of the drop! Looks like your bleaching process worked well! Pretty cool piece!

Lionel, that thing looks paper thin!! And, I would love to see you do one of these off center turnings. Did you open the throat on an off center, then rechuck on center for the hollowing?

The contrasts between these 2 pieces is awesome, I really like that alot, the bleached walnut looks amazing to me, and I like the shape of the drop as well, like John said that looks paper thin, very nice!

I really like the contrast or starkness of this Lionel, but, and this is just a question...what is the purpose of the bleaching assuming it's something other than the color?
Did you warp the dollop or did you turn it off axis?

Hello everyone,
First, thank you for your comments
@John:
Yes it is on two axes. I hollow through a small hole leaving the thickness the height of the neck (on top)
Then I pencil the position of the center of what will be the final mouth
Tightening the tailstock, I fasten my chuck (the piece is now ofset) I turn the outside shape of the neck with tailstock
securing
And then delicately I hollow the mouth of the vase
While hollowing this way, I do rupure between the two hollowings, I soften that using a bentknife
But picture speaks beter than my poor text...

@ Cathy:
dia71 H76mm rim is 3mm thick
@ Jim;
only the contrast, it's my first attempt with this technique (can do better) the picture emphasises the contrast

Lionel, thanks for the tutorial pics!! That was what I had envisioned, but you provided a very good explanation.
