Looking for info about metal detectors. Ruined expensive band saw blade cutting a bowl blank. The blade was pretty new and I can not just run to town for a replacement. Thanks, Allan.

Allan - I have been using the Lumber Wizard for a few years and it has found a number of nails in trees BEFORE I chainsawed them into blanks! I think I picked mine up through Hartville Tool (http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/11435) and I remember paying somewhere around $70.

I also have the Lumber Wizard, and it works well..............when I cut Catalpa a few months back, I hit a barn pole spike with my chainsaw...:eek:......did not have the lumber wizard with me at the time..........ruined a good chain! Any time you cut wood from a back yard or some neighborhood, try to remember to take it along if you get one............it would have saved me some misery!

Ditto on good luck with Lumber Wizard. It can find some small nails and staples that are hard to see and even broken off under the surface. The Little Wizard is cheap and does a fair job, but it limited on coverage and depth of detection, but beats a magnet.

The Lumber Wizard is a great tool but the Little Wizard just don't do what you want. The Little Wizard only penetrates about a 1/2" or so from what I could get from the company. The Lumber Wizard is suppose to penetrate something like 3 or 4 inches ?????
