To begin with, I will mainly be planing rough cut wood, that is old barnwood, in order to make picture frames. I'm kinda big into photography, and just now started making my own frames to sell along with the prints. I had originally planned on buying the Makita 2012NB planer. But will be going up to the Grizzly store in Springfield tomorrow, and wondered what peoples thoughts were on there planers. I was looking at the G0689 (http://www.grizzly.com/products/13-2-HP-Planer-with-Dust-Collection/G0689). I can't find reviews of this, or the lower G0505 (http://www.grizzly.com/products/12-1-2-Planer/G0505) anywhere online. The Makita has excellent reviews, but just thought I'd see what people thought of the Grizzly's since I'll be up there anyway tomorrow. If everyone thinks I should stick with the Makita, where would you recommend purchasing it from? Thanks.

My first planer was the G0505. Despite hours of fiddling and reading about proper fiddling, it took a huge snipe out of most boards. The snipe was something like 4" long and 1/16" deep. I attributed the snipe to a lack of cutter head lock and non adjustable springs on the rollers. I would hold out for a better planer with a cutter head lock.
