This is a 13" x 4" maple that is about 1/16" to 3/32" thick. It was 99% done and I was trying to sand out a little bumpy area when I saw some of my vacuum gasket showing through the bowl. At first it looked like a line from a magic marker, but I knew that wasn't possible. Oh well, chuck it up to good tool control practice. I will use it for practice piercing and coloring.

Hmmmm...I dunno, I'd eat off of it! Sure is/was very nice though!

Looks to me like the first edition of the world famous Bob Berstrom's "Lunar Eclipse Plate". It'll be in the Smithsonian along with Maloof's first rocker.

Hang it on the wall (that way you can call it art!) and name it Sunrise!

I like Steve's idea, make some wall art out of it. Sorry it didnt work out for you, it looks like that would have been a very nice one to.

Bob, You are correct. You need to work on tool control. The entire piece is too thick (except for that one little ring). Better luck next time:D:D:D;);)

It won't hold soup...therefore......

Maybe I should have turned some beads in that wood that was let on the other side of the base. Plenty of wood over there. LOL.

 You could fix this if you wanted to, think about it!! You better not discard this.

Best advice someone gave me was to cut it up into earrings, or bobbles of some kind. I used to smash them to bits with my gouge like I was a knight slaying a big fiery dragon. It is not a big problem anymore. The wood was found, and everyday is Saturday when you are retired.

I like the idea of hanging it on the wall...maybe with a little light behind it? :)

Oooo! I hate it when that happens! Thats exactly what I did with the walnut bowl I was turning. Only thing was the bowl broke whereas this is still intact. I see a really nice round picture frame there...

If that hole is the right size, it would make a fine dust collection hood... I've actually been thinking about turning one for my dust collector.

A little Bondo and some candy apple paint. That sounds plausible.
