I recently bought a Nova 16-24 (now 16-48). I have it mounted very securely to my bench. I have not attempted to do any outboard turning with the head rotated. I have the Nova outrigger attached to the lathe, but have not used it as of yet. I want to turn a 24" dia. platter. Do any of you have any advice other than turning as normal in line over the bed? Any special issues to be concerned with such as vibration? The outboard attachment seems rock solid.
Thanks.

I haven't ever turned the headstock to 90°, mostly because I don't have the outboard banjo......but I do turn the headstock out to 45° a lot. Its a great feature and very very handy. I don't like leaning over the ways while turning. I would just use the same safety techniques you soul normally use and slow it down a bit. A 24" blank should be a little scarey around 1000rpms, until turned true.
