After reading thread after thread, I found that a lot of folks around here do business with Jim Good. After a few emails, he sent me a few to work up a design for a local sporting goods store I provide embroidery and now engraving services for. Here's what I've come up with so far.

Dane,

That looks great! You may want to use flexibrass or some other trophy plate material to apply to the base. The flat area on the base makes a nice spot for an engraved plate.

Good work, Dane - you're going to find lots of people who love those lights!

Thanks guys.
The sporting goods store owner is stopping by later to drop off a few jobs. We may make a few revisions, but hopefully they will be on the shelves soon.

Loving the edge lighting, and your design! I'm experimenting with some edge lit cast acrylic myself and am very excited about the outcome, but am still deciding on LEDs, and bases. Does Jim Good sell bases???

Yes, I got bases and acrylic from Jim in 2 different sizes and an AC adapter.

That sounds great! I've been looking for a good source for bases. Can someone pass on Jim's info? I would really appreciate it.

I would too, unless there's a reason he wants it kept hush-hush..
I've been playing with the night lights from Walmart.. they don't
have many, and just the blue.
But it seems like someone ought to be able to supply just the bases,
since you can buy the whole unit out of China for short money.
Sound like a group buy idea?

Chuck.... think http://jascoproducts.com

$2.99/light, available in red, green, blue and orange.

Nestor.. yep, got that. They're more expensive than WalMart.
But it seems to me that if we're only going to throw away the
inserts and the carding (both of which cost $) then there might
be some room to save a bit by buying only the parts that we
need. I sent off a few notes to people on Alibaba, we'll see
what happens..

Dane,
What settings did you use?

Ron,
I've got an Epilog 50 watt that is running hot so I used the 60 watt raster settings for 600dpi of 100s/30p, & vector settings of 20s/100p/5000f. Even with the vector cutting table I will still get flashback when it crosses the honeycomb walls so I used golf tees as a make-shift pin table. To keep the part from moving when the cut off dropped, I used little balls of Loctite Fun-Tak mounting putty to stick it to the tees.

You, sir, get a virtual star for the day... I had not thought of that product for such a use.
