Here is a Mesquite Birdhouse I made for my daughter on Mothers day /Birthday.The Cap and base are both Mesquite. The cap was textured with 2 methods. 1. punched an indent then scraped down to surface then applied hot water..and bumps appeared. 2.Master carver hi-speed tool with a round tip burr,to indent of various sizes. The pc. is my version of an acorn, meant to be a functional birdhouse. Coated with exterior grade polyurethane. The perch is made of Wenge set on two posts made of Manzanita[pinkish] with two nails made of birch. The hole to the house is natural[actually flew off as turning].Hop you like the pic's. Very unique and different birdhouse. I really like the design. The perch is something I've not seen done before. Great job.

The birds in your neck of woods ought to appreciate the efforts you went to!! Very nice, and I also like the perch.
