This one is about 16" across and 3 and1/2" deep. It has some nice subtle fiddle. The wood comes from two large hard maple trees that were joined at the base. The darker color seems to be from that area facing the trunk of the second tree. The small bead was turned with a 3/8" gouge. Finish is 3 coats of Forby's Oil. I have a lot of this hard maple and it is a pleasure to turn.

Bob, I really, really like what you have done with the rim on this one (and the base)!! Beautiful wood, as well. Excellent work!

Quite nice, Bob! Great form and finish and your rim detail is super! Nice almost foot on the bottom......incorporated well in the curve of the bowl, yet it shows as a feature of its own............again nicely done!

I think the rim is a nice touch and the bowl itself has a warming touch. Great job.

Wow. It looks like an Impressionist landscape. I wish I could see a detail of the bead. Classy!

Beautiful form. Funny, when I started turning bowls I always wanted to make then as deep as possible. But when I see this one it really changes my mind. Great rim as well - I'd like to see a close up on that.

Thanks to all for the kind words. I'll post a close up of the rim as soon as I can. My daughter's soccer team plays two games today and I'm the official filmer. She is a high school coach.

Bob,

Love the rim treatment. From the top view, it almost looks like a bead.

Thanks for sharing.

Here's a couple shots of the rim. Biggest tip in turning beads on a rim is to keep the handle of the tool parallel to the floor and the flute rolled over 90 degrees. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn274/bbergst/IMG_4476.jpg

Really nice, I agree with the folks who used "elegant". The top picture looks like it could be a seascape, with waves crashing against a rocky shore.
