Have a club demo coming up Monday on coring so I thought I would scrounge up some wood. Turns out I found 3 soft maple stumps and some white ash(upper right corner). The fiddle and spalt in one stump was very good. The knees from the maple will go to some fellow pen turners.

That is a nice haul of wood Bob. Just read in our local newspaper here today that they will not allow anyone to come into the dump for wood anymore for any reason. Sucks. Gotta lot of pretty good wood from there.

Sorry to here that. I take it liability is the rub. I have found some great wood at the city wood dump. If it closed, I'd be talking to the tree trimmers.

We can't take wood out of our dump either. Too many pests (like the Emerald Ash Borer) causing problems around here. In fact, the Minnesota DNR is even getting pretty strict on hauling firewood around. We went camping last year at a county campground and we could not bring in any firewood unless it was from that county....

Thank god for friends and Craigslist!

That was a productive stop! Maple looks might fine, the ash is nice too with the strong contrast in colors.
