Hello to all - I much appreciate all the knowledge on this website and am hoping you can answer my question.

I am getting ready to turn a small box (2"-3" diameter and height) with a friction fitted lid - it's purpose is for my wife's wedding ring when she doesn't want it to get damaged. I like to turn pens and there are some pen kits where the metal trim on the wood is very attractive, so I was wondering if anyone knows where to get similar metal trimming in larger diameter for a turned box.

Thanks,
Tim

What about copper sheets? Those are avaliable in "large" sizes...12"x12".

Depending on the look you're after, aluminum, copper, and brass all turn fairly well with standard tools. For very thin aluminum veneer, old beer or soda cans can be used. Obviously, metal flashing and sheet goods are available as Jim suggested. Even plumbing fixtures, nuts, and washers can be turned with standard tooling. I hope you'll post a finished pick when your done.

Thanks all for the great suggestions - I'll have to try a few of them and see what looks best, and will definitely post a pic when it's done!
