Got home tonight and cut out a blank from the old dry mesquite and turned a nice little jumbo lidded box :D

Here's the blank, looks pretty bland.
193530

Roughed to a cylinder and wet with a paper towel so I could get a little preview of how it will look with some oil.
193534

The outside is complete and has a coat of DO. The line is where I will make the parting cut to separate the lid.
193531

The finished box (just need to decide if I want to add a knob or not).
Has a coat of DO so far. A little bigger than any boxes I've done before or seen others do. 6" tall 3 1/2" at the top and base tapering very slightly to where the lid meets the box, walls are 1/8".
Sure was nice to turn something that didn't move or warp while I was still turning it

Thanks for looking!
As always comments and critiques are welcome.

I like the box, with the shape of the top I would pass on the knob and leave it as is. I have always liked mesquite.

Very nice and agree with keeping it as is! No need for a knob as it would totally change the form!

Very nice box Kathy. Keeping the grain loss to a minimum really shows. I lke the size too

Really a nice lidded box Kathy. I agree with you don't need a knob. Good size and form.

Holy cow Kathy....You got Big Mike Stafford on the run!!!

Nicely executed Ma'am. This wonderful.:)

.....except maybe the whole "Box" thing.

I thought DD decided that "Lidded Vessel" was now the official name? And I believe that he is the final authority.

David DeCristoforo (name spelled correctly) in charge of naming conventions
Mr. Keaton, Esq. is in charge of Cleaning
I'm in charge of vapors and stuff
Dr. Keller is in charge of Foot Control
The Honorable Cathy Schwae is in charge of keeping me in a stable vapor environment.
Ian is in charge of neighborhood rogue tree incarceration
Steve Schlumpf is 5000 miles from everyone else
Baxter Smith is in charge of all cherry burls globally
Roger Chandler is the education minister
Bernie Weishapl is retired
David Reed determines the execution of Egyptian....um...stuff
Jim Burr is now the stage manager for The Bangles

Geez...so many people with so many responsibilities!!! There's gotta be more!!
