Jeff, don't quit. You just haven't finished. I see two bowls there, both unfinished. One needs a base and the other needs to be hollowed out. That's too pretty to just quit on. :-)

Jeff - You had a great shape going there! I've been there and it makes me want to come in the house to cool off and get my mind in the proper place before I pull out another piece of wood.

By the way, I see that you've got some of the tools that Jeff Nicol uses. If you made them, nice job!

Keep trying, Mike Ash

I'd say you didn't have your laser aligned properly! ;) Next time you'll get it for sure!

Hey Jeff, I've done the same thing, just turned the bottom part into a pencil cup, looks pretty good actually.

Jeff, I can't even begin to count the number of hollowforms that I have made the inside bigger than the outside. Good shapes and form. When I get to upset, I just make a couple of boxes and move on. Keep on trying.

I'll bet we've all had some (or a lot) of those. Salvage if possible and take it as a learning experience that will push you up the learning curve. Keep at it!

I had one just like it about 5 days ago. Chuck up another piece and go for it, it grows on trees around here.

I agree with Ed. There's ways to save 2 pieces. Apparently, you were supposed to separate anyway.

You probably learned something from it so it can't be a total loss! Thats what I tell myself. Just not until the next day!

Jeff, Time to get in tune with the wood, listen to the sounds as you turn and soon you will be able to stop at about 1/4" like me, but then again after about 500 HF's I do have a small advantage! I have done it a few times but most times it is when I think I need to do just a tiny bit more to the outside and.......well you know what happens! If you don't use a laser like me then maybe one is next in line for the hollowing, also a deep reaching caliper comes in handy too.

See you in the shop someday soon,

Jeff
