what size socket for 5/8 x 11 x 1 1/2" ?

I have a Steel City VS drill press I have not had long. I now need to tilt the table for a project. The manual says to loosen the "5/8 x 11 x 1 1/2" bolt". My socket set only goes up to 3/4" and that is way too small. I can get a crecent wrench on the bolt head but there is not enough space to turn the wrench. When I measure the opening on the crecent wrench it looks like 15/16" but it is probably metric. Can anyone help me with a socket size?

If the manual says it's a 5/8" bolt, then it ought not to be a metric head. According to this site, http://www.numberfactory.com/nf%20screws%20and%20bolts.htm, a 15/16" socket ought to do ya. A 24mm socket is the next closest metric size, if that's what your buddy has to lend out.

You ought to be able to eye it with a small rule and than convert the decimal number to a mm to figure out what it is to some degree of accuracy.

I'd never assume a bolt head size based on thread size, there may be a system, but I've seen an awful lot of different size bolt heads to believe I could guess it right.

Especially with an import tool - who knows what they would have used.

If it's a standard 5/8" bolt it will take a 15/16" wrench or socket.

the 5/8" x 11 would mean 5/8" dia 11 threads per inch.
