OK, it is a CL ad. But I didn't post it in D&D because it really isn't about being a deal. It is more about how turners might appreciate the 6 FOOT BAR!!!!

Enjoy...

I bought this saw 4 years ago and bought the bar and chain seperately and only used it for about 45 minutes. I repeat I have only used this saw less than an hour, but had to have it, that should tell you it was a BIG tree. Honestly I am 5'6" tall and the the bar stuck out about an inch and a half on the other side of the tree while notching the tree as high as my shoulders. The saw hasn't been started since, but will start it the first chance I get. I know its ok it hasn't been exposed to the weather all this time. It has been in a knaack box that long. The handle in pic 1 has nicks from taking out and putting other saws in the box. The cord artound the bar is to hold the chain on the bar. I'm basically just giving you the bar and chain if you buy the saw. This isn't a fast cutting saw it has HORSEPOWER to tackle the biggest trees and should only be operated by an experienced tree person. WOW! That's a heck of a saw. I'm betting it would cut a serious bowl blank too. I'd love to have that saw just for the heck of it, but then I'd have get a tad larger lathe to turn the bowl blank on!

Steve, as long as your headstock spindle is more than 3 feet off the ground, you and turn a 6 foot piece...:D

My BIL has a Sthil 090 with a 6' bar and an Alaskan Sawmill. I've been on the stupid end cutting redwood burl slabs...125 of them with sharpening in between. I have a real cool coffee table as a result.

So, I guess you saw the ad, huh?

You are asking me? Waddayathink...I actually went out and got it? How would I know how it runs?...I'll go outside and check...:D No, I didn't pick it up.

The way I see it, your jointer should (in theory) match your planer. And likewise, your chainsaw should match your lathe. My lathe can handle 18". So my chainsaw doesn't need to be any bigger than 20" (leaving a little extra for waste)...and I already have a 20" chainsaw. ;)

I have this same saw with a 3' bar. You can set the dogs in the log and use both hands to lever it into the cut as hard as you can. It's a beautiful machine that sounds like a dirt bike when running. It's bigger than some small dirt bikes! It has a compression release to help with starting. I'm 58 years old and can only run it about 30 minutes at a time. But in those 30 minutes, there is a lot of wood on the ground. I have ripped 12/4 by 30" wide soft maple with a Haddon Lumbermaker. I found that it did a better job when running about 3/4 throttle doing that. The chain would last longer at slower rpm. It took about 25 minutes to cut those at 10' long with a rip chain. Good luck with your sale.
