Is there any problem with storing brad point drill bits sharp side down? I was thinking of using a piece of 8/4 maple and making a drill index.

I store all of my bits point down...saves a lot of wear and tear on my hands. Twist drills are in their regular index boxes, Forstners and brad points are in pine. Spade bits, well, that's another story...they lay flat, so thats how I store 'em, layin' in a drawer

I store all of my bits point down in a metal index. I caught some flak from someone here about it once. My fingertips are more valuable to me. You can buy the metal indexes pretty cheap on line - I would have some concern with moisture in the wood block rusting the bits.

Point down in 3/4" MDF drawer liner. Very handy since you can space them out a little and label them clearly on the "index".

Thanks for the feedback. I've got a new set of the Colt 5 Star brad point bits that came in individual packages and they are just too sharp to be storing sharp side up.
