I paid Steve Schlumpf a visit on Wednesday to check out his shop and monster hollowing rigs. We had a great visit and it gave me plenty to think about. Thanks Steve. I pondered making this Thursday and decided Friday that I could do this. Started cutting, drilling and tapping and had everything done for my brother in law to weld. This morning I cleaned and painted everything and now I just need to wait for the thrust bearings and a cutter kit from Don Pencil. Got it done just in time, I go back to work Monday, now I can look at it on Sunday till fall when I'll have time to use it.

That looks pretty sweet, Phillip! If it works even half as good as it looks, you're in for a treat. Nice job!

That's a really nice setup. One of these days I will have to make me one.

Good job Phillip. Suggestion: when hollowing use a longer tool rest just for safety sake. You have a very long bar that can stick out over the tool rest. I suspect you will find that you need a much thicker diameter bar that goes deep into a tall vessel. I will be interested to hear how it works. I have the Jamison style system and wish at times mine articulated.

Thanks Dick, I have the 14" toolrest that comes with the PM, but anticipated having to get a longer Robust one. Also planned on getting an 1" or 1 1/8" bar for deeper hollowing besides the 3/4" shown and the bars switch between the captured and articulated.

After watching all these others make 'em, I'm in the process of making me an articulated hollowing system too. Waiting on some welding, but just about there! That stuff there looks great and the captured system will be next on my 'what to make' list.

Really nice unit. Looks like it will do the job.

that Schlumpf guy is a troublemaker. Send it to me Philip....and just forget the whole incident. ;)

Great looking rigs there Philip. You did a nice job on both of them. You are going to love using them.

Wow - that sure didn't take you long! Had a great visit - always fun to get to know a fellow turner/Creeker! And thanks for the Walnut - already started roughing out a vase!!!

Very nice work on both of your hollowing systems! I like the variable wing idea for the articulated version - you'll have to give us an update once you get to use them! Hope you can find some time to check it out instead of waiting until September!

Those are both sweet systems. Rivals those made by the pro's too. Looking forward to you hf posts rolling in.
